#20 Sitting top of the league | PL Newcastle (h)

Football is emotional. Anyone who watches football gets it. Those who don’t watch it might think it’s all a bit over the top, and maybe it is. Other sports get close, just look at the darts, people love it. Football though - there’s something about the highs and lows of football that no other sport can quite replicate. It, of course, can go too far, and it quite frequently does, but when it’s good, it’s very good. Just so happens that when it’s bad, it’s also very bad. Often those heated emotions are vented at the referee. I’d be intrigued to know if Anthony Taylor left Anfield thinking he’d had a good game. I think both teams will come away from that game thinking they were hard done by at various points in the game. That Jota penalty is a shocker, and how Joelinton doesn’t get a yellow card towards the end of the second half is beyond me. Really poor refereeing display. Am I shocked? Not really.

The Reds had an xG of 7.5. 7.5. That is mad. The penalties aside, they were dominant in every single way and Newcastle’s goals were completely against the run of play. I reckon Eddie Howe might be quietly relieved he hasn’t been on the end of a 7-0 defeat, there. They look shot, those lads. Absolutely goosed.

The previous two or three games have been much better performance-wise. It could all go wrong now that they’re likely to be missing the main man and Endo (and probably Szoboszlai) for a few weeks, but who knows. There’s plenty of lads in that team who can do the business in their absence, and there's a league to be won.

Football is emotional. Liverpool thrive on emotion. Sometimes too much emotion is a bad thing, but at the moment, let’s hope the Reds can keep thriving on that good emotions.  Download the free phone wallpaper below!
